Health Enhanced by Art 2020 (HEArt Journal)

Sunrise Sunset

Art Description

This is a quilt I made with scrap blocks leftover from Phoenix Arisen. I made extra blocks for that quilt to ensure I had enough variety of colors and hues to find the perfect combination for that other quilt. In the end, I chose the remaining pink and yellow lighter toned blocks and made this quilt from those. It is a small lap quilt. It was made with traditional piecing by cutting large squares, sewing them together, then cutting them apart, only to resew them together while mixing up the fabrics to create more depth and contrast. I used free motion quilting and ruler work to create flowers over each of the blocks with swirls and fun feathering around grey fabrics.

I am the Director of Admissions (Missouri), and have worked at ATSU for 11+ years. I am happily married for nearly 30 years and the mom of two adult sons. I am a passionate quilter and have won several awards for my quilts over the years. I love any type of fabric, and all quilts I make have a story to them. I am also a long-arm quilter, so the final quilting process is done through free motion sewing on a long-arm frame with my Gammill Vision 2.0 quilting machine. The process of sewing is something my Grandma and mother (also quilters) instilled in me at a young age, and is my mode of choice for expressing myself and relieving stress.
