Art Description
This embroidery project was created as a way to document the daily events of medical school over the course of one year. It began with an empty embroidery hoop, without a predetermined plan for the final appearance. Each day, a new, small, embroidered representation of that day was added, until the entire hoop was filled in. Individually, the daily embroidery represented different aspects of life in medical school, ranging from patient encounters, organ systems, loneliness, and friendship. Together, the embroidery is abstract yet cohesive, symbolizing how each element blends together and creates a greater whole. For me, this project is a personal representation of part of my time as an ATSU student. It also represents the ATSU mission of a holistic understanding of medicine's challenges and goals. It addresses the importance of the different factors that can shape an outcome, and the unexpected beauty that emerges when each factor is given consideration and acknowledged.
