Magnificent Microbes

Art Description

This acrylic painting is a representation of microbes within the human body. Although people come from various cultures, religions and regions of the world, we all stem from similar components under our skin. By looking at my painting, no one would be able to identify who these microbes belong to, or whether they are harmful or beneficial to us. I want to lure others to embrace the unknown, finding harmony in things we cannot fully understand. I also hope to have captured the beauty and interest that is within each and every one of us. As we grow, we have unconsciously trained our eyes to judge colors, shapes and patterns. However, I am displaying my imagination of a microbe that can be whatever you want it to be. It is up to the viewer to choose whether this painting will bring them fear or if it will produce a positive ambiance.

Artist Statement

Artist: Monika Koehler, ASHS

I am a first-year physician assistant student, dedicated towards becoming a provider that emphasizes the importance of treating patients as a whole. Since I was young, I always enjoyed painting and have found my favorite media to be acrylic. Over the years I have adjusted the themes I paint, finding a fascination for biological things that are invisible to the naked eye. My paintings allow me to incorporate my medical interests, creativity, and fascination for the unknown.
