Art Description
"There are limits to what we can learn from books and technology. Engaging in the arts is an approach to noticing things we otherwise would not, and it provides us with an opportunity to develop our creative potential. Metalsmithing is my artistic endeavor. I am given endless possibilities to create and discover the life beyond a sheet of metal. From crafting my piece, I learned to appreciate the small details that go into it and how intrinsically linked medicine and art can be. The metal is like a patient, I had to treat it with care and compassion. I had to be present, engaged, and willing to spend as much time as needed to ensure it was in an ideal condition. Art is extremely powerful tool, and medicine is an art. Metal Piece: Copper metal with powder coating."
Artist: Kendra Wang, SOMA
My name is Kendra Wang and I am a medical student at ATSU-SOMA. I really enjoy creating metal artwork and have been doing so for more than five years now. Creating metal sculptures is my favorite because it fascinates me to see a flat sheet of metal be transformed into a three-dimensional object.
