Health Enhanced by Art 2020 (HEArt Journal)

Color on Canvas: Beach

Art Description

Growing up in Key West, Florida, I am most at home when close to the beach and ocean. This piece was inspired by my memories of island life. As we encourage our students and graduates to focus on their wellness throughout their journey in medicine, I feel it is imperative to set an example. I am not an artist, but I love putting color on canvas. This practice forces me outside my comfort zone, as I repeatedly remind myself that there is no “perfect” endpoint with color. The WHO notes that "health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." I hope others will nurture their creative spirit as we all work toward being our best, healthiest selves.
