Health Enhanced by Art 2020 (HEArt Journal)

Time to Breathe

Art Description

I enjoy hiking, especially in mountainous areas. The physical activity and being surrounded by nature reduces stress and allows time for reflection. On occasion, the beauty of the area can leave me speechless. This is when I stop and take time to look, breathe, and sometimes take a photograph that captures the view and the moment. This picture has the greens, blues, contrasts, depth & distance changes that captured a peaceful moment during a full-day hike. Very few places I've been have been as beautiful as Glacier National Park and I would like to share this picture so others might enjoy it and take time to breathe.

I'm a professor and the associate dean of academics and assessment in CGHS. Hiking is one of the outdoor activities that I greatly enjoy and so does my wife. She also enjoys traveling so we go to areas where we can enjoy walking through the great outdoors and taking pictures of nature's beauty. My scholarly interests include cardiopulmonary health and fitness throughout the lifespan. Hiking is a lifetime activity that promotes physical fitness and mental well being so it fits naturally into my work-related interests.
