Copying and pasting from Word into Canvas is not recommended if specific formatting is required. When copying from Word into anything in Canvas, it will add computer coding that will make the text appear different to different browsers. This may affect your instructor being able to read and grade your work properly. Formatting and fonts may have to be edited. If you want to be sure your work is formatted properly, it is best to initially write it in a program like Notepad (a text-only program), copy it into Canvas, and add any formatting (i.e., italics, indenting, bold) directly in Canvas The Rich Content Editor allows text formatting in Canvas. Any tools that allow students and/or instructors to post text use the Rich Content Editor.
Reminder: APA and HTML (which is the computer language the Rich Text Editor uses) do not work well together. Complete APA formatting cannot be done within Canvas. When posting in discussions, blogs, wikis, and other Canvas tools, it is not possible to do hanging indents, double spacing, or page headers/footers. However, providing correct citations and references is always required.
