OSPD Director

Eric Matthews, PhD, DHSc, MS, MA, RT(R)(CV)(MR)
Director, Office of Scholarly and Professional Development

Dr. Matthews completed his PhD in education at Southern Illinois University with an emphasis in adult and vocational/technical education (workforce education and development). He recently completed a Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) degree at Nova Southeastern University. He also holds graduate degrees in education (post-secondary administration and supervision) and museum studies. His professional medical preparation is in the field of diagnostic imaging. Dr. Matthews is certified in diagnostic radiography, cardiovascular-interventional technology, and magnetic resonance imaging by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Prior to coming to ATSU, he was the program director of the radiography program at Southern Illinois University.

Dr. Matthews has an extensive teaching history at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to teaching most courses in the ATSU Health Sciences curriculum, he has taught numerous courses on medical and educational history, his primary research interest. He enjoys qualitative-historical research and has served as a subject matter expert for several state and national organizations and museums on the topic of 19th century American medicine.

Jason Salas, MAE
CGHS Career Services Coordinator

Jason Salas is the Career Services Coordinator for the Office of Scholarly and Professional Development (OSPD) within A.T. Still University’s College of Graduate Health Studies (CGHS). He holds an M.A.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Missouri - Kansas City and a B.A. in English from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri.

Since beginning his career in 2002, Jason has developed a strong foundation in teaching and instructional design, working with diverse student populations in urban and rural settings. In 2007, he transitioned to corporate education, first as a training specialist in the financial services sector and later as an instructional designer for a global healthcare IT company in Kansas City. This shift sparked his interest in adult learning theory and the relationship between education and the workplace.

Jason joined CGHS in 2019, and now with OSPD, his focus is on integrating technology with healthcare education while supporting students and alumni in their career journeys.

In addition to his role at CGHS, Jason has served on the Baldrige Board of Examiners, advocating for excellence in organizational performance across healthcare, education, and nonprofit sectors. He also holds certifications from Quality Matters (QM) in Peer Reviewing and Applying the QM Rubric, staying current with best practices in online learning and continuous improvement.

Marsha Presley, PhD, MPH
Research Associate

Marsha Presley, PhD, MPH is a research associate. She was a NASA scientist for 20 years. She mapped Martian data to analyze the Martian surface, assembled her own laboratory, performed seminal experiments on the thermal conductivity of particulate materials, participated in field work in the Simpson Desert (Outback) of Australia, and was on the Science Team of the DS-2 Mars Microprobes.

A rare metabolic disease inspired her to change careers. She obtained her MPH, and is now a Research Associate with the Department of Public Health and the Office of Scholarly and Professional Development in the College of Graduate Health Studies at A.T. Still University.

Marsha earned her MPH from A.T. Still University, a PhD in Geological Sciences from Arizona State University, a MA in Earth and Planetary Sciences from Washington University in St. Louis, and a BS in Chemistry from the University of CA, Davis.
