Be certain you represent your certificate properly. It is NOT a Certificate in Dental Public Health - that is what you would earn if you completed a dental public health residency for the specialty.
What you ARE earning is a Certificate of Public Health - Dental Emphasis.
Please make sure you represent the certificate appropriately on your CV.
ASDOH Certificate Schedule Choices: The following document illustrates 2 of the more common schedules for completing the ASDOH certificate in public health - dental emphasis. Other options are possible, if these don't work for you, contact your advisor, Bethany Clatt, to find one that will.
ASDOH MPH Schedule: Your dual-degree schedule may vary depending on when you start and how many courses you think you can handle. If you want to know what your schedule will look like before you decide to get your dual degree, check with your advisor, Bethany Clatt. Keep in mind that it is OK to complete the MPH-D after ASDOH graduation - your certificate courses are good towards the MPH-D for five years.

FAQs regarding certificate schedule options
Q: What if I decide on the accelerated certificate schedule in FAB1 because I want to do the MPH, and then change my mind about continuing on with the MPH?
A: No problem. You just finish your certificate early.
Q: What if my academic advisor changes my ADP and I decide that I don't want to be on the accelerated certificate schedule in FAB1 after all?
A: You may request that your Academic Advisor (AA) change it back to the original ADP. If registration has already occurred, then you will need to fill out the Course Add/Drop Request form, which you can get from your advisor (Bethany). NOTE: You do have to withdraw before the end of the first week of the quarter if ASDOH or MOSDOH is to receive a full refund of your tuition -- later drops may require you to retake the course at your own expense.
Q: Can I continue to take just one course per quarter?
A: The only correct way to complete your certificate or MPH is at the pace that is most comfortable for you. If you want to complete your MPH at the same time as your DMD, then you may have to double up on your public health courses at least once.
Q (ASDOH): If I only take one class in FAB1, can I still start the MPH in SPB1?
A: No. You would have to at least wait until SPB2 to apply. But so what? You will not be "behind". Please choose a pace that will be comfortable for you.
FAQs concerning the dual-degree (DMD-MPH-D) option.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: ASDOH students have 7 courses left to take after completion of the certificate, MOSDOH students will have 6 courses. All courses are worth 3 credits, except for the Practicum course, which is worth 6 credits. See CGHS Tuition & Fees for Public Health to determine the cost. You receive a 20% discount for the dual-degree program, and if you decide to wait to enroll in the MPH until after you graduate from your DMD, you will still receive that discount as an alumnus. You can expect a tuition increase each fall. So very likely the sooner you finish, the less it will cost. Tuition is due NO LATER than the first day of your Block 1 class and covers both Block 1 and Block 2 courses. Inquiries about paying your tuition, and how much it will cost this fall may be directed to Student Accounts: 660-626-2888 or studentaccounts@atsu.edu
Q: Can I get financial aid?
A: Take a look at the enrollment services' "Types of aid" website. If you have any questions after that, contact Enrollment Services: enrollmentservices@atsu.edu | 660-626-2019
Q: I get military funding for tuition. Who do I talk to?
A: Veteran's Benefits: https://www.atsu.edu/department-of-student-affairs/enrollment-services/types-of-aid#veterans-benefits
Military Tuition Assistance: https://www.atsu.edu/department-of-student-affairs/enrollment-services/types-of-aid#military-tuition-assistance
Q: Can I wait a bit before enrolling in the MPH?
A: Yes. The only correct way to complete your MPH is at a pace that is comfortable for you! Some students even wait to complete the DMD first and then return to complete the MPH-D. Your certificate courses are good towards the MPH/MPH-D for five years.
Q: Can I enroll now but take some time off later in order to study for my boards?
A: Yes, but with two caveats: If you are out of the program for more than one semester, university policy requires you to apply for re-entry through admissions. If you choose to remain out of the program for more than one semester, you run the risk that the program requirements will change, as you will be entered into the newest program. Talk to your advisor about taking time off, and they can advise you appropriately at that time.
Q: What if I apply for the MPH-D and change my mind?
A: No problem! If you change your mind before Day 1 of classes, then let your Admissions Representative know and they will cancel your enrollment. If you change your mind once classes have started, then you must request to formally withdraw from the program. Your academic advisor can assist you with that process. You must submit your withdrawal request within the first 7 days of the block in order to obtain a full tuition refund.
MOSDOH Certificate Schedule Choices: The following document illustrates 2 of the more common schedules for completing the MOSDOH certificate in public health - dental emphasis. Other options are possible, if these don't work for you, contact your advisor, Bethany Clatt, to find one that will.
MOSDOH MPH Schedule: Your dual-degree schedule may vary depending on when you start and how many courses you think you can handle. If you want to know what your schedule will look like before you decide to get your dual degree, check with your advisor, Bethany Clatt. Keep in mind that it is OK to complete the MPH-D after MOSDOH graduation - your certificate courses are good towards the MPH-D for five years.
