The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) Scholar's Development Program

Program Impact

Norman Gevitz, PhD Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs provides more information about the program and why ATSU faculty should take advantage of this opportunity!

Why is the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) Scholars Development Program important to ATSU and to you?

The vision of the University is to be THE preeminent university for the health professions.  That vision encompasses serving as the leading innovator in health professions education and in pioneering contributions to healthcare education, knowledge and practice.

What better way to move concertedly toward achieving that vision than by collecting data and writing as an individual or with a group about the innovative educational activities and practices that are taking place in the programs here ATSU?

The new Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) Development Program is an excellent way for you to develop your scholarship agenda and research plan to garner peer and institutional recognition and to move to the next level with your career.

The great thing about the SoTL Development program is that NO prior writing or research experience is required.

  • Start where you are today and go on a journey of discovery about your teaching practice and its impact on students.
  • Then share what you learned to the benefit of colleagues and others looking for new approaches to evidence based teaching and active learning.

The unique advantage of participating in the SoTL Scholars program is that you will have an expert SoTL researcher working with you and walking you through the process to create your personal research plan.  By the end of the spring-long program, you will have written your research plan and will be ready to begin collecting your data on your way to writing and publishing an article in a peer reviewed journal or presenting a session or poster at a national level conference.

What better way to invest in your personal career development while advancing the vision of the University?
