AOA Announces Call for Research Abstracts for 2023 Osteopathic Medical Education Conference

The objective of AOA's virtual poster session/competition is to provide an opportunity for researchers to disseminate their research to a broader audience. The virtual Poster Session is an integral part of the Osteopathic Medical Education Conference (OMED) experience. Investigators interested in participating must submit an abstract of their research project. Approved abstracts are published in the online edition of the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine (JOM). The virtual Poster Session will include a student poster competition. 

Abstracts must be clinical, basic science, health services, or public health studies and fall within one of the AOA research topic areas:

  • Chronic Diseases & Conditions
  • Acute and Chronic Pain Management.
  • Impact of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) & Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)
  • Musculoskeletal Injuries and Prevention
  • Osteopathic Philosophy
  • Health Disparities/Social Determinants of Health

Submission Deadline is Monday, June 26, 2023, at 11:59 pm CST.

Addressing Health Inequities
Through Title VII Training Programs

In January 2023, the Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry released its 20th Report, entitled Addressing Health Inequities through Title VII Training Programs: Training Clinicians to Close the Gaps in Health Equity. Under the auspices of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), this interdisciplinary federal advisory committee provides guidance and recommendations for policy and program development.

The report’s key recommendations prioritized HRSA grant funding for training medical and students on the treatment and care of patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities and special health care needs and for implementation of curricula addressing health equity and cultural humility. The Committee also encouraged funding of grant applicants that successfully recruit learners and faculty from underrepresented backgrounds. Read More
