Increasingly, the NIH and other research funders are expecting researchers to use common data standards in their fields to increase science interoperability and reproducibility. This page contains some resources you can use to identify relevant data standards for your project. Note that not all fields have established data standards.
Data standards are standardized ways of expressing variables and data elements. When different researchers use the same data standards to collect the same types of data, it makes data more interoperable, more reusable and enables greater data reuse and secondary analysis.
